On the subject of epic/historically significant battles; at this year's comic-con, Frank Miller, the graphic novelist, unveiled his film adaptation for his novel dubbed "300", which is based on the Battle of Thermopylae. Ive only seen stills but it looks amazing! Think of Miller's Sin City flick but with a great story/battle sequence and youve got a winner.
Its set for release in 2007. I cant wait.

This should be good. I'm looking at some of the stuff about the film at imdb.com
Definately has the makings of a great film that may not only be a blockbuster but an Oscar winner as well

So far, its getting good ratings from IMDB users who've seen it. It has a 9.2/10 average from 938 votes. IGN gives it 5/5

the music alone is worth it.
none of that sappy symphonic melody; its some serious heavy metal.

Its pretty good I can tell you that. Its taken from a mythological perspective so it isn't an accurate depiction of the battle but that's not what they wanted to show. Rather, I liked how they showed it from a way that the Spartans themselves would have glorified this moment their songs and legends. A credit that would obviously go to Frank Miller as well.
