Anybody here following the world cup matches? Who here thinks another team besides Brazil will win it all? Personally i think Mexico has a good chance to take the cup, better than the last time (02); of course, my opinion is slightly biased.

I am sort of. Although Mexico may have a better chance than in 02, I think Brazil will win. But for the 2nd best team, I think it will be either Italy or England.

Well, Italy did tie the US. but even though like I should be rooting for the US, I have to admit that it is easy to beat us. We're not as into soccer like the other countries, so if Italy only tied us, I have doubts about them being able to take on Brazil

Very true. Other nations take soccer a lot more seriously. Even if the US won, we wouldn't go crazy over it like other countries. As to who could beat Brazil, maybe Spain. To beat Brazil, a team needs to be able to keep the ball away from Brazil (which Mexico is good at too). Also, they'll need a good goalkeeper. Spain is quite capable of keeping the ball, and Iker Casillas is definately a good goalkeeper. So my bet is that if anybody can beat Brazil, it will be Spain.

One thing i think is worth mentioning is the play-style of the Brazilians. Those guys play the game with so much joy and passion for the game and the game itself its almost as if theyre grown kids on the field and not like others who play with a certain gloominess/vengefulness and almost a wrath. That is definitely something i admire of Brazilian players.

Mexico's out. They lost to Argentina in overtime. As for Brazil, I don't know if anyone can beat those guys.

Mexico should have won that game on paper, they were clearly dominating, but of course all those other shots didnt go in. Only in soccer will that happen; a team that absolutely dominates the game ends up losing on a wild, unblockable shot. Thats why its not one of my favorite sports to watch; if you get up to grab a beer you can miss the whole game. Heres that crazy but nonetheless skillful shot; my stomach cringed the moment i saw it, it was devastating. I also felt sorry for our goalkeeper, he had just lost his dad. Just devastating. www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMGmsGD_ta4As for who can beat Brazil, well it looks like theres going to be a rematch from the Cup '98 championship: Brazil v. France; although Zidane is much older now. Im actually surprised that the best player in the world that is Ronaldinho has been a non-factor in the games. No doubt he will take the baton from Ronaldo, but maybe not this World Cup. BTW has anybody seen the hilarious Compayito on Televisa(A Mexican channel)? I think hes more entertaining than some of the games LOL.

The teams play offense/defese longer, while in soccer and basketball the teams are always switching between offense and defense. But at least in basketball, its easy to score, whereas in soccer, its harder. So I can see your point on how you can miss the whole game if you get up and leave at the wrong time. I'm not sure if France can beat Brazil. They made a statement yesterday with the win over spain. Zidane said that they "felt very disrespected after being described as too old." So they went out to prove themselves. Though I'll be rooting for the french to win, I still think Brazil will come out with the victory at the end.
