Fanboy and proud of it. A 20 yr old fanboy today.
The film was alright. I'm not saying it was all that bad, but I still liked "A New Empire" better.

Hi there,
I thought the film was great. Perhaps the one of the greatest home videos ever made, (or at least that I have seen). The subject matter of the film (choosing the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest), is no less than Oscar material. Though the film does come with its low points, I can see that these were caused by a lack of funds, not a lack of talent. What impressed me a lot was the screenplay. Those little memorable lines like "perhaps this is the one blessing that war gives us," or "the generations of eternity will be watching you." What I also liked was the suspense right before the battle scene, as Arminius was about to throw the skull at the Romans. This is a good movie, and I hope that more people will have a chance to see it.

Welcome stevemaximus, and Happy B day Darth Maul. I agree with you Maximus, there were lots of little lines like "so it is war then" that made the film so cool.

one of my favorites was "so that's your weapon Roman?" when KoRnyJoRge attacked that guy with some type of flag.

Its called a "standard." Look in the credits, the guy is credited for being the "standard bearer."

That poor other guy that got hit with the standard. The one like when Varus is picking it up and he stabs him with it.

I thought it was cool when all the arrows were pouring on the Romans, and then the skull hit one of them, and then they started hooting and shouting and screaming, and did somebody say "b@st@rd$"?

Yeah, he said that when he came out from behind the wall. Then they took the line right out of Rome Total War when Arminius said "They run like frightened goats. Hunt them! Goats make good eating!" I started laughing when I heard that, but did they really eat their enemies? I mean, was that part of Celtic culture?

They weren't cannibals, if that's what you're asking, but not that some could have been anyway. Even though that particular line may sound cannibalistic, I don't think Arminius meant what he said literally. He wasn't serious. I think what he meant was to hunt down the Romans like they were goats for dinner.

Alot about it was cool. The only things that kind of brought it down were as stevemaximus said were the lack of equipment and funds. I would still like to see this movie come out as a major production with all the stuff that Hollywood has.

Its called a "standard." Look in the credits, the guy is credited for being the "standard bearer." His real title would be the "aquilfier." There are many types of standards, but the Towne Films version seemed to be a combination of them (which hinders the historical accuracy, but still looks good enough). So perhaps he was just refered to as the "standard bearer" since there was no official name for the person who carried the "Towne Films standard."

But it looked cool anyway. Besides, more standards would probably require like more cast members, and I don't think they had that much
