That thing that Varus has looks cool. He has some animal skin on his back or something.

You would think it would be hard to film a movie about a battle in the forest when you're based in the desert like those guys. But I guess they did a good job of location scouting.

Plus to find that place where they filmed "Varus' Villa."
I really have to give them credit for improving their locations. The emperor's office in "A New Empire" was just cheap. It would have looked better at the top of some office building. Since Legiones Redde is supposed to be a serious film however, they probably couldn't get away with cheap locations, so I think they were forced to find some cool places to film.

Well a few months ago I brought up with Robert the current list of films based on Rome from Hollywood and how most of them seem to take place in the deserts. I then told him how I was surprised Gladiator was the first to my knowledge to show a battle dealing with the barbarian tribes to the north of the Roman Empire. This discussion basically sparked his imagination I guess and he later came up to me and told me that he liked the idea of doing such a film. I was a bit surprised by this but I had already had a place in mind for where we could film this next project. Basically, as soon as he told me he wanted to this project my imagination ran wild and numerous ideas sparked up in both of our heads. The location for Varus' Villa was actually his idea, and a lot of what you'll be seeing was inspired by our interest in the subject. Hopefully it'll all come out well and good. And yes it's ironic how most of the story is supposed to take place in a forested region, and yet here we are living in a desert.

There might be a few other films that show the Romans fighting to the north, but not from Hollywood, and they're usually documentaries and not real movies. Most as you pointed out take place in Italy, Egypt, or Israel.

I remember they talked about some barbarian battles in a documentary called "War and Civilization." Other than Gladiator, I can't think of any other real films with barbarian battles.

I don't know why people don't make more movies with the Celts. Perhaps it has something to do with like their "uncivilized" nature, that would make any film with them rated R.

Well in "A New Empire" it was a comedy that took place a lot on earth. So there really wasn't anything wrong or inaccurate about their locations. It would have been cool though if they had the emperor in the oval office though. But as for Legiones Redde, it's supposed to be a tradgedy, so there's not going to be anything funny about it. With that said, it is easier to make a comedy than a tradgedy, so if they manage to pull this one off, I think it will be a lot better than "A New Empire" imho.

The easiest film to make though is a horror film. Maybe one day they'll do one of those.

This movie will be a lot better than "A New Empire." We're talking about a serious war film here, so I'm looking forward to the release. I hope they set a release date sometime, so we can start counting down.

I don't know. I'll have to wait and see this one first. You just can't beat Star Wars though. They can make this film really good, but it would be hard to beat "A New Empire" because hey, lightsabers are the coolest weapons ever, and so far only "A New Empire" has those.

Well, the Lucasfilm Star Wars movies are the best. But as far as Towne Films are concerned, I think Legiones Redde will be way better than "A New Empire."
